Shameka Christon drops in for visit with new coaches

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas women’s basketball coach Tom Collen had a visitor last week as former Lady Razorback all-American and current WNBA player Shameka Christon dropped into the Lewis Center for a visit.

The Hot Springs, Ark., native was on her way to preseason training camp with the New York Liberty, and stopped by to meet the new coaching staff and catch up the Lady’Backs on her winter basketball.

The top returning scorer for this year’s Liberty team, Christon spent her third winter season overseas. Her recent stint was in the Spanish top division. Christon played half the season with Rivas Futura of the Liga Femenina de Baloncesto, averaging 11.4 ppg and 5 rpg. Rivas Futura missed the LFB playoffs by a single game.

Last year, Christon averaged 12.4 ppg for the Liberty.
