Shean 10th, Arkansas 11th

PARRISH, Fla. – University of Arkansas senior Kelli Shean counted back-to-back rounds of 72 leading the No. 13 Razorbacks to 11th place at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., Tuesday.

Shean, a Cape Town, South Africa, native tied for 10th overall with rounds of 75-72-72 for 219. Shean had 12 birdies over three rounds and was solid for the Razorbacks on Tuesday.

She opened the shotgun start at the River Wilderness Golf and Country Club on hole 11A and was even through her first six holes. Shean bogeyed the par four 18th hole and turned to go one-over on the first hole as well.

Shean remained at two-over through 16 holes before carding a four on the par five eighth hole. She moved back to even with a three on the par four 10th hole.

As a team, the Razorbacks picked up steam in the final round. Arkansas opened with a 302 followed by a 309 in the second 18 of the day Monday. Tuesday saw Arkansas count a 298 finishing 11th with a 909.

Freshman Emily Tubert tied for 30th overall with a 226 (73-77-76) followed by sophomore Victoria Vela who tied for 50th with a 230 (76-81-73). Redshirt freshman Emma Lavy tied for 62nd overall at 234 (78079-77) and redshirt freshman Rachel Carpenter rounded out the Razorback scoring, tying for 72nd overall with a 246 (84-81-81).

"We were a little rusty as you can see by the scores," Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. "It was good to go out and play and get these rounds under our belts. I was pleased with the improvement in the final round. Nearly everyone bettered her score from the previous round and that is a sign of good things to come."

Sixteenth-ranked Iowa State surged to the top of the leaderboard winning the first event of the spring with a four-over 868. The top five included No. 4 LSU with 877, No. 42 Texas A&M at 881, No. 32 TCU with 887 and No. 18 Michigan State with 888.

The rest of the field included No. 43 Northwestern at 893, No. 22 Kent State with 897, Michigan in nineth with 901, No. 15 Notre Dame with 904, No. 13 Arkansas at 909, No. 36 Minnesota with 910, Indiana with 915, Baylor at 922 and Missouri with 939.

The Razorbacks return to action March 6-7 at the SunTrust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
