Shean leads at Bryan

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Junior Kelli Shean posted an even-par 72 leading the No. 39 University of Arkansas women’s golf team to its best score of the weekend at the Bryan National Collegiate in Greensboro, N.C., Sunday.

Shean finished tied for 14th overall with a 221 including rounds of 72-77-72 for the three-day event. She led the Razorbacks to a 297, their best score of the tournament, and a 13th-place finish with 903 (306-300-297).

Shean bogeyed hole two and birdied the 11th for her even round.

“I’m pleased with Kelli and the way she finished,” Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. “She battled back and finished strong.”

enior Kristin Ingram finished tied for 26th overall with a final round 77 for a 223 (78-68-77). Freshman Victoria Vela was tied for 54th with a 229 (78-77-74) saving her best round, a 74, for last. Junior Corinna Rees and senior Tiffany Phelps also posted their best scores of the weekend in the final round. Rees tied for 67th overall with a 233 (80-78-75) with a last day 75. Phelps tied for 84th overall with a 238 (78-84-76) that included a 76 on Sunday.

Vela played a nearly even round but suffered a double on the 11th for her only bump on the scorecard.

“Nearly everyone improved in the last round and that was nice to see,” Estes-Taylor said. “We have some work to do to shore things up a bit before the postseason and I think we’re all excited to begin that journey.”

Thirtieth-ranked Florida State was the wire-to-wire winner of the event finishing with a three-round 873 (291-288-294). The top five included No. 10 Wake Forest with 874 and No. 16 Ohio State, No.19 Vanderbilt and No. 4 Duke in a three-way tie for third with 886. SEC member and No. 15 Tennessee and No. 28 North Carolina tied for sixth overall at 888, followed by No. 17 LSU with 890, No. 27 South Carolina with 893 and No. 41 Northwestern rounding out the top 10 with an 895.

Arkansas travels to the SEC Championship April 16-18, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
