Shean wins LPGA qualifier

ROGERS, Ark. — Arkansas junior Kelli Shean shot a 2-under 69 Tuesday to win the qualifier and earn a spot in the field for this weekend’s LPGA P&G beauty NW Arkansas Championship.

“Well it’s pretty awesome as I came out here with one goal to make it.”, said Shean following her round. “I’m ecstatic. I’m just excited for the weekend and hopefully I can make that cut too. It’s an honor to be able to play”

Senior Kristin Ingram also participated in the qualifier and shot an 8-over 79.

“It was a struggle out there”, noted Ingram. “I’m disappointed but this will help me in how I handle tough courses and make me a better player for the upcoming season.”

“It was fun to have this opportunity for Kelli and Kristin and our team”, remarked Arkansas head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. “It gives them some valuable experience and tests their game against some of the best in the world. I’m really proud of Kelli for going out and playing some awesome golf today. Kristin struggled a little bit but she did a lot of good things. They should both be proud of their performances and it will be fun to have 3 Razorbacks in the tournament this week.”

Shean joins former Razorbacks Stacy Lewis and Lucy Nunn in the field for the 54-hole LPGA event which will take place Friday, September 11 through Sunday, September 13. Tee times for this weekend’s tournament not yet been announced and all three rounds will be televised by the Golf Channel.
