Shean wins qualifier

FAYETTEVILLE – Senior-to-be Kelli Shean and two former University of Arkansas women’s golfers have qualified for the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open.

Shean and former Razorbacks Lucy Nunn and Stacy Lewis are all qualified in one of the largest fields in U.S. Women’s Open history. The event takes place July 5-11 at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa.

Several other players including former Razorbacks Kristin Ingram and Tiffany Phelps along with current team member Meagan Roberts and future Razorback Emily Tubert are all participating in qualifiers next week.

"This is very exciting for these players and for our program," said Razorback head coach Shauna Estes-Taylor. "I’m proud of the efforts of all these players and it’s great to see their hard work pay off with inclusion into one of the most exciting events in golf."

Shean qualified after winning an event in St. Louis Monday. She competed alongside Nunn who had to battle through a playoff to also qualify.

Lewis, in her second full season on the LPGA Tour, is exempt from qualifying.

Razorback redshirt freshman Emma Lavy was leading the St. Louis qualifier early but missed qualifying.
