Shorthanded UA falls at Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. — Arkansas took its No. 3 national ranking on the road Friday against five-time defending national champion and competing at less than full strength, the Razorbacks dropped a 196.725-195.825 decision.

Arkansas had a 49.25 on vault, 48.65 on bars, 48.95 on floor and 49.025 on beam. The 195.825 total is the second-best road mark this season, and the Razorbacks posted that total without senior Amy DeFilippo in the lineup.

“The girls did a great job fighting through this meet,” co-head coach Mark Cook said. “Amy hurt her knee last week and we thought we could get her in the lineup this week, but it didn’t happen. Kelci Lewis competed on beam for the first time and did a great job, and we only had five on bars.”

DeFilippo set a career high with a 39.225 all-around score two weeks ago in the win over No. 12 Kentucky and was limited to bars and beam in last week’s win over No. 16 Auburn.

The 49.25 on vault against Georgia is the third-best of the year for the Razorbacks and the best in three meets on the road.

The 49.025 beam total is also the third-best of the season and the best on the road. The 48.95 on floor is second-best on the road.

“The girls did a phenomenal job on vault and we were strong on beam,” Cook said. “It’s always a little harder on the road, but the girls did a good job. We’re getting there. We’re learning by experience, but we’re making progress.”

Following the first rotation, with Georgia on vault and Arkansas on bars, the Bulldogs held a slight 49.00-48.65 lead with the Razorbacks entering just five competitors.

In the second rotation, Arkansas scored 49.25 points on vault, led by consecutive 9.925 efforts from Pisani and Magee. Magee’s total is a season high while Nagashima also had a season best of 9.85. Howdeshell and Lewis each carded a 9.775, and Amanda Siebert added a 9.725.
