Six named All-SEC

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Southeastern Conference released its All-SEC Teams for the 2009 outdoor track and field season Monday. Six members of the Razorback women’s track and field team picked up All-SEC honors.

At the 2009 SEC Outdoor Championships, the Razorback scored 96.5 points for a fourth-place finish. Florida won the team title with 135.5 points. LSU was second with 113 points and Tennessee rounded out the top three with 106 points.

Arkansas won four individual titles from sophomore Catherine White (5K/10K), junior Katie Stripling (pole vault) and senior Etienne Chaplin (heptathlon). Additionally, sophomore Shelise Williams added a runner-up finish in the 400 meters, senior Denise Bargiachi a runner-up finish in the 10,000 meters and sophomore Jillian Rosen earned bronze in the 1,500 meters.

Chaplin (heptathlon), Stripling (pole vault) and White (5,000 meters and 10,000 meters) have all been named first-team All-SEC for their victories.

Bargiachi (10,000 meters) and Williams (400 meters) were named second-team All-SEC. Whitney Jones was named to the SEC All-Freshman team as the top frosh finisher with a sixth-place showing in the long jump.

These six All-SEC awards are in addition to the SEC Runner of the Year honor for Catherine White and the SEC Co-Field Athlete of the Year award for Katie Stripling.
