FAYETTEVILLE – In reward for their work in the classroom, six members of the University of Arkansas baseball team have earned a spot on the 2010 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. A total of 53 Razorback student-athletes were named to the list.
Sophomore Zack Cox (communication), sophomore Geoffrey Davenport (accounting), junior Scott Limbocker (political science), sophomore James McCann (communication), junior Sam Murphy (communication) and junior Jordan Pratt (transportation) represent the Arkansas baseball team. Cox, Limbocker, McCann and Murphy were also honored last season; Cox and McCann were named to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll in 2009.
"We continue to challenge our student-athletes on the field and in the classroom and they continue to respond," said Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long. "Nearly all of the honorees were on teams that advanced to postseason competition. These student-athletes balance high athletic expectations with demanding academic challenges and they succeed at the highest level. We are very proud of their accomplishments."
In addition to his recognition by the SEC, Cox was named to the 2010 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Third Team earlier this season. He and McCann were also selected as ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 6 performers. Cox was a member of the first team, while McCann earned a spot with the second team.
The Razorbacks recently completed their 2010 season with a 43-21 record and an appearance in the program’s second consecutive Super Regional. Arkansas was ranked No. 13 in the final Baseball America release and finished 14th in the NCAA RPI ranking.
