SMU returns to Fayetteville for women's hoops

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Two of the old Southwest Conference teams get together Friday evening as the SMU Mustangs visit the Arkansas Razorbacks in women’s basketball at Walton Arena.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, and the game will stream live as video and audio for RazorVision members at ArkansasRazorbacks.com.

SMU has only one game complete for the 2008-09 season, losing its season opener at home to cross-Metroplex opponent Texas-Arlington. The Mustangs (0-1) have not had a lot of success in Fayetteville, never winning at Walton Arena. The last time SMU won at Arkansas was back in the late 1980s.

The Razorbacks (2-0) look to switch up the starting lineup tonight, swapping freshman for freshman. Lyndsay Harris (9.5 ppg) has been solid in her first two starts at Arkansas, but fellow newcomer Ceira Ricketts (12.5 ppg, 5 spg) has been even better. Ricketts came off the bench in the first two games this year, and is expected to get the starting nod in the backcourt along with sophomore Shanita Arnold.

Ricketts leads the Southeastern Conference today in steals per game with five, and Arkansas as a team leads the SEC overall.

Senior Whitney Jones (13.5 ppg) leads the team in scoring and starts at the high post with fellow senior Ayana Brereton (7.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg) leading the team in rebounding from the forward position. Junior Ashley McCray in the low post rounds out the tentative starters for Arkansas.

The Razorbacks are in the middle of a three-game, five-day home stand that concludes on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. with Northwestern.
