Softball continues SEC play at Kentucky

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas softball team continues Southeastern Conference play traveling to Lexington, Ken., for a three-game set against Kentucky this weekend. A doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday are both slated for noon. The Lady Razorbacks (29-18, 2-12 SEC) come into the weekend series after an upset of then No. 11 Oklahoma. The Sooners have since moved up in the polls to seventh. Arkansas defeated OU 3-2 and split the doubleheader with a 3-2 loss in the nightcap in eight innings. The win marked the first time in school history that the Lady’Backs defeated the Sooners. “The games against OU give us momentum into the weekend series with Kentucky, which is a big series for us,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “In the SEC standings, we’ve painted ourselves into a corner where we’re going to have to win series. We’ve got to go out and play the type of ball we’ve played over the last couple weeks and take care of ourselves.” Kentucky (15-24, 3-13 SEC) enters the series having lost its last two games against No. 12 LSU on Wednesday. The Wildcats took two out of three games from Ole Miss last weekend and are led by Molly Jonson who is batting .402 with 14 doubles, six home runs, 30 RBI and 14 stolen bases. Junior Kayla Johnson leads the Lady’Backs with a .359 average, 55 hits and 41 runs. Sophomore Sandra Smith has a season-record 12 home runs and is two RBI away from breaking the season record. Senior Dayna Huckabee holds the career record in home runs with 18 and triples with 12. She has four this season. Arkansas is 20-10 against Kentucky, yet has never swept the Wildcats in Lexington. The Lady’Backs won the last five games, including a sweep at Lady’Back Yard last year. Live stats and live audio of this weekend’s games are available on LADYBACKS.COM.
