Softball Signee Earns Honor

FAYETTEVILLE-A future member of the University of Arkansas softball team, Jessica Bachkora, was named the Kansas City Star All-Metro softball player of the year, the newspaper announced recently.

The Overland Park, Kan., native earned first team all-state honors, while leading the Notre Dame de Sion Storm to the district championship.

Bachkora signed a National Letter of Intent with the Lady Razorbacks during the fall signing period in November.

Arkansas softball head coach Jamie Pinkerton said he is excited for Bachkora to end her high school career on such a high note.

“It is a great honor for Jessica, her teammates and her family,” he said. “She is a tireless worker and pays attention to detail. We are very happy and proud of her.”

Bachkora said she was surprised to win the player of the year award, which typically is given to a pitcher. The outfielder led the Storm to the district title after defeating Blue Spring 1-0.

“It is a huge honor and I really appreciate it,” she said. “It was a tough season on and off the field and our team came together and we beat Blue Springs for the first time in my high school career. It was really great.”
