Softball team takes on Centenary in Sherwood

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the fourth consecutive season, the Arkansas softball team will travel to Sherwood, Ark., for a midweek contest, a Wednesday matchup with Centenary. The game will take place at the Sherwood Sports Complex with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The Razorbacks are 6-0 in games played in Sherwood.Arkansas (24-17, 10-8) leads the all-time series with the Ladies, 9-1, with wins the previous four meetings. The Razorbacks have only given up two runs during that stretch in which they’ve outscored Centenary, 26-2. Centenary’s lone win in the series came during the 2006 season, a 6-4 triumph in Shreveport, La.On the season, the Razorbacks are hitting .266 as a team, led all season by senior catcher Whitney Cloer who carries a .352 batting average. Cloer leads the team with 33 RBI and is second in the Southeastern Conference with 13 doubles. Brittany Griffiths is second on the team with a .311 batting average. The freshman shortstop had her second three-hit effort of the season in Arkansas’ 8-7 win over LSU last weekend.Riding a six-game hitting streak, Jessica Bachkora has pushed her batting average to .301. She has collected nine hits in that time. She is tied with Kayla Johnson for the team lead in runs scored with 27. Johnson, hitting .290 this season, is two runs from becoming Arkansas’ all-time leading scorer. She trails current leader Dana Gulick (1997-2000) who scored 119 runs during her career.Miranda Dixon has taken the team lead with nine home runs. Eight of those shots have come since Arkansas’ March 21 meeting with Kentucky. She belted three home runs last week, including a pair of three-run shots in the Razorbacks’ win in Norman over then-No. 11 Oklahoma. Dixon’s other home run come in Arkansas’ series opening win over No. 19 LSU.In the circle, Dixon and Kim Jones have been Arkansas’ No. 1 and 2 starters, respectively. Dixon is 15-6 on the season with a 3.30 ERA and 109 strikeouts in a career-high 140 innings pitched. She has appeared in 29 games with 20 starts. Jones is 7-8 with a 3.44 ERA this season. She has more than doubled the number of innings pitched from last season with 108 innings of work this season.Centenary (27-14) has won seven of its last nine games. As a team, the Ladies are hitting .249 this season. Lindsey Smith leads Centenary with a .352 batting average, 11 home runs and 35 RBI. She is tied for first and second in the Summit League with her home run and RBI totals, respectively. Caitlin Cavarra is hitting .307 with 39 hits, including 10 doubles.In the circle, Hillary Phillips and Jessica Bock have started all but two games this season for Centenary. Phillips leads the team in ERA with a 1.86 mark. She is 13-6 on the season with 122 strikeouts in 135.1 innings pitched. Bock is the team leader in victories with a 14-6 record. In 137.1 innings pitched, she has struck out 93 batters, while giving up 130 hits.The Razorbacks have played a game in Central Arkansas every season since 2006.
