Spoon Lands on SEC Community Service Team

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Redshirt junior outfielder Tyler Spoon has been named to the 2015 SEC Baseball Community Service Team for the second straight season as announced by the league office Tuesday morning.

The SEC supports a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.

The Van Buren, Arkansas native has organized numerous community service projects in Arkansas, including “Christmas with the Omahogs” to raise money for Christmas gifts for children at Leverette Elementary School. He is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has spoken to high school ministries and churches through Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).

Spoon has also been instrumental in the Razorbacks’ participation in the Miracle League of Arkansas, which provides children in the community with disabilities the chance to live out their dreams of playing baseball.

Spoon is currently hitting .343 with 15 doubles, five home runs and 43 runs batted in. He recently graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Recreation & Sport Management.

Spoon and the 20th-ranked Razorbacks are in Omaha, Nebraska to take on Creighton Tuesday evening at TD Ameritrade. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
