FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team closed out its spring schedule last Saturday with a win over Missouri State at Barnhill Arena in Fayetteville. The victory was the Razorbacks’ fourth of the month-long spring season. Arkansas and Missouri State have played each other the past three springs with the Razorbacks coming out on top each time.
Including its win Saturday, the team racked up victories over Houston, Texas Tech and Tulsa during the spring schedule. The Razorbacks defeated Tulsa on April 11 in Fayetteville. Arkansas followed that up with wins over Houston and Texas Tech at the Lone Star Classic College Showcase in Dallas. The team’s spring also featured a training trip to Lawrence, Kan.
Away from competition, the Razorbacks stayed active in the Northwest Arkansas community with several service events and projects. Arkansas continued its outreach with the Special Olympics that included a volleyball clinic and participation in the organization’s Area 3 Games. The Razorbacks also paired with national organization Feed My Starving Children to help pack meals. Other community service efforts involved volunteering for the Walk of Love and visiting local veterans’ hospitals.
Beginning with the start of team practices in late January, Arkansas worked through its spring schedule with a roster of seniors-to-be Roslandy Acosta, Amanda Anderson, Kasey Heckelman, Marci King, Jasmine Norton and Janeliss Torres-Lopez; juniors-to-be Hayley Koop, Clarissa Pavey, Raymariely Santos and Ashley Vazquez; and soon-to-be sophomores Christa Alvarez and KC Dobbins. Vazquez, a transfer setter from Long Beach State, joined the Razorbacks in January to begin the spring semester.
Up next, head coach Robert Pulliza will host his fourth round of Razorback volleyball summer camps starting July 6. The summer sessions will include an all-skills camp (July 6-8), team camp I for varsity and junior varsity teams (July 9-11), position camp (July 12), team camp II for varsity teams only (July 13-15), Lil’ Backs camp (July 16-18) and junior high team camp (July 21).
