Stan Heath Press Conference – Georgia

Stan Heath Press Conference – Georgia
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas plays host to Georgia Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. in a game televised by Jefferson-Pilot Sports. The Razorbacks are 15-7 overall and 3-6 in the SEC. Georgia is 7-12 and 1-8. UA is coming off the 66-65 win at Ole Miss on Saturday. Georgia lost at home to South Carolina on Saturday, 60-53. Following is a partial transcript of head coach Stan Heath’s press conference.

Starting lineup at Ole Miss:

“I wanted to put the five best players on the court. Jonathon Modica has always been one of our best five players and it was critical that we get him going. To me, it’s not important who starts. To some players, it is a big deal. That doesn’t mean it’s right or wrong. I can tell it gets his juices going.”

Winning a close game:

“We had an 11-point lead and I still kick myself because after that timeout, we got caught up in the emotional part and made some plays that hurt us. I’m proud of the guys. We made plays, guys stepped up, we executed and got the shots we wanted. Dontell made a driving bucket to get us right there and then he stuck his nose in there and got fouled.”

The team’s confidence:

“It is a confidence builder – knowing you can win on the road and you can come back from a deficit. Different players at different times made plays. We stayed together and got closer. Chemistry is always a big thing and a game like that can help your chemistry.”

“Olu Famutimi (hip) should be fine by Wednesday. He came back in the game and gave us some minutes. Mike Jones (groin) is doubtful for this week. We’ll see how he is next week.”

Playing Dontell Jefferson, who hit the game-winning free throw with three seconds left, at the end of the game:

“It’s great Dontell was in the right place at the right time. Those minutes probably would have gone to Olu if he had not been hurt. Who plays depends on that particular game. This should do a lot for Dontell’s confidence. If his confidence is high, then mine is high in him. My confidence in players is based on their own confidence. We need that from him. If we get that, he can play more minutes and it will let us rest Ronnie Brewer and Eric Ferguson more.”
