FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas plays host to No. 22 Alabama Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. in a game televised by Jefferson-Pilot Sports. UA is 6-11 and 1-5 in the SEC following Saturday’s 77-66 loss at then-No. 4 Florida. The Gators are now ranked No. 1 in the nation. Alabama is 13-5 and 3-4 following a 75-66 win over LSU.
“Our team is a lot different than it was the last time we played Alabama. We can handle pressure, we have better flow on offense and we’re still rebounding well. Jonathon Modica is a better offensive player than he was a month ago. I don’t want to point a finger at anyone, but we’re not as strong defensively since we put Michael Jones in for Carl Baker. Our offense has picked up, but our defense has slipped.
“Alabama has Erwin Dudley and Maurice Williams. Dudley gives you a double-double every night and Williams is one of the better players in the league, but we can’t fall asleep against their other guys. Antoine Pettway, Kenny Walker, Earnest Shelton and Emmett Thomas can all hurt you.
“I don’t think they were playing their best basketball when they were on their winning streak, but they were winning. After a couple of losses, it may have set them back mentally. LSU was a good win. That will build their confidence.”
