FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas returns to action following an eight-day layoff on Wednesday, Dec. 18, when the Razorbacks play host to Sam Houston State at 7:05 p.m. in a game televised by ARSN. Here is a partial transcript of head coach Stan Heath’s press conference.
“We’re finishing up final exams. In the last couple of days of practice, we’ve been working on Arkansas basketball. Offensively, we’ve been working on screening, cutting, better ball movement and cutting down on our turnovers. Defensively, we’ve been working on getting through screens and help-side defense. We spent time getting our team a little stronger offensively and defensively. Practice has been good and it came at the right time. We’ll spend the next two days preparing for Sam Houston State, which is a very good team. They have three guys averaging in double figures, they’re shooting 40 percent from three-0point range and they force about 20 turnovers a game.
“They are almost a cross between Troy State and Oral Roberts. They have senior guards and good three-point shooters, and they have a good inside game as well. Felton Freeman is 6-5 and he’s shooting 73 percent from three-point, and Donald Cole can shoot the three and is a good post scorer as well. Mario Kinsey is a transfer guard from Kansas who is now eligible. He’s a good defensive guard and will just add to their depth. They do a great job of finding Felton Freeman. He does a good job running off screens and is very efficient. It’s not like he’s taking a lot of shots. He’s very impressive, and right now, he’s a very hot shooter.”
