Stan Heath Press Conference - Georgia

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas closes the regular season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. (Central) game at Georgia. Following is a partial transcript of head coach Stan Heath’s press conference.

“Momentum is big and we want to continue playing well. It would be good for us to get another road win and finish with three in conference.

“Georgia is young and talented. They have outstanding guard play with Levi Stukes, Channing Toney, Sundiata Gaines, Mike Mercer and Billy Humphry. Those guys are very talented and there’s no drop-off.

“Georgia is the leading team in the SEC, in conference play, in steals. We have to be smart. We need to rebound the ball, get a good running game going and get stops on defense.

“We’re definitely looking at Georgia and not the SEC Tournament. We would like to get to 10 wins in conference and be in double figures. We’re a team that will play every game and not look past them.”

NCAA Tournament:

“Now, I think we need to talk about seeding. We talked about it after the game and what things are important in helping us get put in a better situation. The No. 8-9 spots are not necessarily where you want to be. That is always a tough game because it’s two even teams, and even if you win, then you play a monster (No. 1 seed) in the second round.”

Playing better in front of bigger crowds:

“I think we tend to play better in front of a Kentucky or Tennessee-type crowd. Jonathon Modica, Vincent Hunter, Charles Thomas and even Ronnie Brewer in some ways are all emotional guys. They feed off the energy in the building. We have to find a way to correct that so we aren’t feeding off of just that.”

Single-digit turnovers in three straight games:

“When you start getting single-digit turnover numbers, that’s phenomenal; especially since we’re doing it by committee at point guard. We’re doing it by committee, but we’re getting it done.”
