FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas plays Bucknell Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in the American Airlines Center at Dallas. Bucknell won the Patriot League championship and is 26-4. Arkansas is 22-9. Here are a few comments from UA head coach Stan Heath.
“We felt like we had done enough to get in the tournament, but it is always good to see your name on the board. It’s been a building process and we have made it to the next stage. The hard work the guys put in after last season and in the pre-season this year paid off. I hope league play throughout the season as well as the conference tournament got us ready. We will go out and be prepared.
“The No. 8-9 seed is a dangerous spot. That is always a tough part of the bracket. In this field, everything is wide open. Nobody has really dominated our team. We have been in every game this year, even in Maui.
“I’m really happy for our seniors, especially Jonathan Modica and Eric Ferguson because they have been here since day one. They were big down the stretch. I look for them to carry the torch for us into the NCAA Tournament.
“What we can take from the SEC Tournament is everyone is on equal footing. We have to be ready to make plays. The second day we got caught relying on jump shots and we did not have our legs.”
