State serves up win in Starkville

Jump toMississippi State box score STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State tallied 16 service aces in an upset win over Arkansas in Southeastern Conference volleyball action Sunday in Starkville, Miss. Arkansas (16-12, 9-11 SEC) dropped its second three-game match in a row, 22-30, 25-30, 20-30, to State (17-13, 8-12 SEC) who picked up its first win in program history action the Lady’Backs. The loss hurts Arkansas’ NCAA Tournament hopes as the Lady’Backs await the selection show next Sunday. State’s serve was the difference in the match as Arkansas struggled to pass all day. In addition to the passing woes, Arkansas’ offense hit just .152 and the Lady’Backs were out-blocked nine to six. Arkansas scored the first point of the match but never led again in the first game hitting .172 for the frame. The Lady’Backs again scored first in game two but couldn’t sustain the lead and Arkansas hit .000 with nine kills and nine hitting errors in the final frame, a game in which they never had a lead. The loss wraps up the 2006 regular season as seniors Amy Allison, Kele Brewer and Denitza Koleva end their careers in the Cardinal and White.
