Strong Start For Hudson

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Junior Shannon Hudson turned in an impressive performance for Arkansas women’s tennis in the pre-qualifying round at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships Saturday.

Hudson picked up two wins, downing Duke’s Jessica Ho, 6-3, 7-5 in the first round and TCU’s Olaya Garrido, 6-2, 7-5 in the second round.

Hudson will take on Sabrina Federici (Texas Tech) in the final round of the pre-qualifying draw Sunday.

Meanwhile in Columbia, South Carolina, the Razorbacks picked up three wins.

Oleksandra Shkorupeieva defeated North Florida’s Quetzali Vasquez, 6-4, 6-0 before downing Oklahoma’s Simran Sethi, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (9) in a hard fought match. Mia Jurasic tallied her second win of the weekend in singles play, defeating Oklahoma’s Malene Stripp, 7-5, 6-3.

“We had encouraging performances at both tournaments today,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “The big goal for right now is to keep making progress, and we will look to do the same tomorrow.”
