FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas senior center Travis Swanson has been named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List, it was announced Tuesday.
Swanson is on the watch list for the third straight year and adds another preseason recognition to his list that includes preseason All-America and All-SEC acclaim heading into the 2013 season. Last season, the Kingwood, Texas, native was a team captain and earned second-team All-SEC honors, leading an offensive line that blocked as 24 school or SEC records were broken and allowed just 1.58 sacks per game to rank third in the conference. Swanson has started all 38 games of his collegiate career and blocked for a 3,000-yard passer in each season, including the first season in school history with a 3,000-yard passer and 1,000-yard rusher and the first time in school history the Razorbacks produced a 1,000-yard receiver in consecutive seasons.
The Rimington Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding center in FBS by determining the consensus All-American from the American Football Coaches Association, Walter Camp Foundation, The Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America All-American teams. Jonathan Luigs became the first Razorback to win the award, named after the only two-time Outland Trophy winner Dave Rimington, in 2007. This year’s finalists will be announced Dec. 9 and the winner will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12. The winner will be honored at the Rimington Trophy Presentation Banquet at Rocco Theater in Lincoln, Neb., on Jan. 11, 2014.
