FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team continued competition at the Missouri Invitational in Columbia, Mo., on Friday. The team participated in preliminary heats in the 400-yard individual medley, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 1-meter diving.
The Razorbacks placed at least three swimmers in each final, and at least one Razorback has earned a spot in each championship final.
In the 400 individual medley, senior Julia Kucherich (York, Pa.) led the Razorbacks with a fourth-place finish in 4:20.71, followed by senior Nicole Menzel (Hilton Head, S.C.) in sixth place with a time of 4:22.10. SophomoreRachel Kessler (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and freshman Katie Kearbey (Nevada, Mo.) also recorded times to place them in finals.
Junior Anna Mayfield (San Antonio, Texas) swam an NCAA ‘B’ time standard of 1:47.48 in the 200 freestyle prelims. SophomoresRachel Stoehr (Lake Forest, Ill.),Nina Drolc (Velenje, Slovenia), andMaddie Monroe (Godfrey, Ill.) also earned times to compete in the championship final.
Mayfield recorded another NCAA ‘B’ cut time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.89 to earn the fourth seed in the championship final.
Junior Nikki Daniels (Wichita, Kan.) finished the 100 breastroke in 1:00.70 to earn an NCAA ‘B’ cut time and a third-place seed in the championship finals. Junior Julia Banach (Eilat, Israel), sophomore Erika McGovern (Tulsa, Okla.) and freshman Mary Margaret Soderberg (San Antonio, Texas) also earned spots in the finals.
Senior Kesha Naylor (Saskatchewan, Canada) led Arkansas’ divers by placing seventh in 1-meter diving with a score of 273.95 and advancing to finals.
