Swimming and Diving Fact Sheet #2

This WeekArkansas continues the season Saturday, Oct. 28, as the Lady Razorbacks travel to Lincoln, Neb. to face the University of Nebraska. The Cornhuskers host their fourth straight home meet.
RecapThe Lady Razorbacks opened the season with an 89-149 loss against Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina, Oct. 13. Nevertheless, Arkansas won five races and qualified two divers for the NCAA Zone Diving Championship.
Double DipsSophomore Summer Jackson and senior Mariann Fulop took two wins each against South Carolina. Jackson swept the 100 and 200 free posting a 52.81 in the 100 free and a career-best time of 1:55.03 in the 200 free. Fulop won the 200 back with a 2:05.81 and the 200 IM with a 2:08.09.
In the Top Two Arkansas took either first or second in 11 out of 13 events against South Carolina.
Thibodeaux’s Top TimeSenior Kristen Thibodeaux also collected a first-place finish with a personal best 5:04.36 in the 500 free. The win was the first of her career against an SEC opponent.
Close CallIn the 50 free junior Emily Gregory was right behind her career-best time, finishing in second place at 24.44. Gregory also placed second in the 200 fly.
In the ZoneAt South Carolina sophomore Madison Palmer and junior Brieanne Kushner qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving meet. Palmer scored personal bests on the one meter (283.80) and on the three meter (300.38). Kushner tallied a 258.45 on the one meter and a personal best 311.78 on the three meter.
One-Two PunchSummer Jackson and sophomore Macey Webb finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 free, both posting career-best times.
A College FirstKristen Thibodeaux competed in the 1,000 free for the first time in her collegiate career. She placed second with a time of 10:21.07.
Personal-best performancesThe Lady’Backs earned seven personal records their first meet of the season. They are as follows: 200 free – Jackson 1:55.03, Webb 1:55.87; 500 free – Thibodeaux 5:04.36; 1,000 free – sophomore Emily Fletcher 10:59.47; one meter – Palmer 283.80; three meter – Kushner 311.78, Palmer 300.38.
Speedy SeniorFulop beat her nearest competitor by almost four seconds in the 200-back victory.
About NebraskaThe Huskers return 15 and welcome eight newcomers. They are led by head coach Pablo Morales who holds an all-time women’s coaching record of 41-32 at Nebraska. In the 2005-06 season the Cornhuskers finished 7-2 in dual meets and 36th at the NCAA Championships. Nebraska is 1-2 on the 2006-07 season and 0-2 in the Big 12 after facing two of the nation’s top teams in the Aggies and Texas Longhorns.
Arkansas versus the CornhuskersNebraska leads the all-time series 6-4 and won the last meeting in 2005, 178-121.
The Home OpenerArkansas hosts its home opener Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. against LSU.
