Arkansas Breaks Three Relay Records

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas swimming and diving team (3-1) saw three school relay records broken during the three-day Houston Cougar Swimming and Diving Invitational.

It all started with the 400 medley relay when the team of Shana Lim, Nikki Daniels, Susanna White and Nina Drolc teamed up to shatter the previous relay record of 3:40.47 set in 2010. Lim led the relay off with a school record of her own in the leadoff leg of the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.66. Lim also held the previous record of 54.95, which she set against Georgia. Daniels followed Lim’s lead with a split of 59.71 in the breast stroke to move Arkansas into second place. White was up next for the Razorbacks, clocking a 54.64 in the fly. Drolc finished out the record-breaking swim with a time of 49.20 on the split, as the Razorbacks finished in third, besting their previous 400 medley relay time of the season by 7.61 seconds and picking up their first NCAA ‘B’ cut time of the season in a relay.

The second record-breaking relay swim came on the second day of competition as the same group swam a blistering 1:39.08 in the 200-yard medley relay to claim the school record. With the swim, Arkansas improved their previous relay time by 3.21 seconds to pick up the top spot in the record books. The race was a tight one for the Razorbacks as Lim gave Arkansas the lead after the first leg with a 24.52 split. Daniels continued the momentous run as she clocked the second fastest split of the race in the breaststroke, handing it off to White and Drolc to close as the Razorbacks finished third overall in the race.

The final relay record fell in grand fashion in the final event of the invitational in the 400 freestyle relay. Drolc swam the leadoff leg and put the Razorbacks in third before handing it off to Maddie Monroe. Monroe maintained the Razorbacks third-place time before handing it off to Mayfield. Anna Mayfield didn’t let them down as she clocked a blistering 49.67 split before giving it over to White to close. White held up her end, clocking the fastest split of the group with a time of 49.28. Arkansas was one of only three relay teams that recorded legs under 50 seconds, as SMU and Texas A&M were also under 50 seconds.
