Team prepares for Homecoming game

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas head football coach Bobby Petrino met the media in the Raymond Miller Room at the Broyles Center Monday, commenting on the Razorbacks’ 38-24 victory against Ole Miss this past weekend and outlining the coming week. Arkansas (5-2, 2-2, SEC), ranked 19th in the latest AP poll, hosts Vanderbilt (2-5, 1-3 SEC) on Saturday at 6 p.m for Homecoming.

Coach Petrino was happy with the Razorbacks’ final result with the Rebels after two lightning delays interrupted play.

"I am very proud of our football team," Coach Petrino said. "That was a long game. It was an unusual game, something like I’ve never been through before with having those breaks in it. We focused and played with great effort. That was probably our best effort game in all three phases. The defense obviously gave us a big boost in the first half. Offensively, I thought we ran the ball better than we had all year. Our offensive front played physical, finished their blocks and came off the ball against a good defensive front. That is good to see."

The game was highlighted by Razorback Knile Davis’ running prowess. The Missouri City, Texas, native rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries, all career highs. Also contributing to the big plays was wide receiver Joe Adams, who set a new school record with a 97-yard punt return for touchdown.

"Obviously Knile hit the hole and ran with power," Coach Petrino said. "We made some big special teams plays. Joe’s punt return was a huge play for us. I was happy overall with our team effort."

The Razorbacks will head back to the practice fields this week in preparation for the visiting Commodores. Coach Petrino knows the UA football players will be ready to go.

"I think first of all, our players will watch the video and say, ‘Hey we’ve got to get ready to go, this is a good football team,’" Coach Petrino said. "They do things real well, don’t make mistakes, and play with great effort."

The Arkansas-Vanderbilt game will be broadcast by FSN. For more information on Razorback football, please visit
