FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas men’s tennis will begin its 2000 regular season Tuesday, when the Centenary Gents come to Fayetteville.
The Hogs begin the season ranked 39th by the International Tennis Association and return nine Razorbacks to the lineup.
The Hogs are lead by junior Oskar Johansson, who is ranked eighth nationally by the ITA. Johansson enters the 2000 season off a very successful fall tournament season. Johansson was 15-4 and was the winner of the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational. He also had a runner-up finish at the prestigious Rolex Regional.
Junior Brad Berry and senior Chris Campbell will make their second career start at No. 1 doubles in Tuesday’s match. The duo teamed up last season to a 10-8 record.
Junior Henrik Tofft will play No. 1 singles. Tofft returns to the lineup as one of the most successful Razorbacks on this season’s team. He has amassed 42 wins over his career.
Two new Razorbacks are expected to play Aleksey Bubis and Eduardo Pacheco.
In the fall of 1999, Bubis posted an 8-7 record and won the consolation bracket of the Ball State Invitational with a 4-1 record.
Pacheco ended the fall with an 8-4 singles record and an 11-2 record in doubles. Also in doubles, Pacheco advanced to two quarterfinal rounds, the Rolex Regional and Ball State Invitational.
The Hogs will play Tuesday, Jan. 25, and the match will begin at 4 p.m. at the University of Arkansas Track and Tennis Center.
