Tennis Hogs Win Over Indians Stops Three-Match
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas’ tennis team bounced back after a three-match losing skid Sunday afternoon by defeating the University of Louisiana – Monroe 7-0 in Fayetteville.

“Needless to say it was a good day for us and we sure needed it,” head coach Robert Cox said. “Winning is such good medicine for this team. We have been a little frustrated so far. I was really proud of the way that we stayed focused.”

Arkansas got back into the swing of things by winning all three doubles matches. The last time that the Hogs swept all three doubles matches was January 25, 2000 in Arkansas’ 7-0 victory over Centenary.

Juniors Oskar Johansson and Henrik Tofft fended off the ULM tandum of Robert Bailey and Bartos Dabrowski, 8-4.

The freshman duo of Aleksey Bubis and Eduardo Pacheco won 8-4 for their second consecutive win.

Junior Brad Berry and senior Chris Campbell were able to come back after being down 4-1 at No. 3 doubles. The duo are 9-7 on the season.

In singles action, eighth ranked Johansson did not play due to tightness in his back. Junior Henrik Tofft played in Johansson place at the No. 1 and defeated Robert Bailey of ULM 6-2, 6-4. Tofft is ranked 83rd by the International Tennis Association.

“Oskar is a little tight in his back,” Cox said. “Sometimes when you play a team like this they can get so focused on beating one player that it could fire up the whole team. We needed to rest him anyway, and it gives these other guys a chance to play.”

Magnus Kullenberg was able to come up with the victory at the No. 2 singles over Bartosz Dabrowski 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. The match took two hours to play.

Aleksey Bubis, Tiago Azevedo, Eduardo Pacheco and John Deaton were straight set winners on the day.

The Hogs will travel to San Diego, Calif. March 22-23 for two matches. The first match will be against the University of San Diego on March 22 at 1:30 p.m. Loyola Marymount will play the Hogs the following day at 1:30 p.m.
