Tennis takes tough regional loss at SMU 4-3

DALLAS — Ela Kaluder battled for a three-set victory on the first court, but the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks could not complete the rally to defeat regional tennis foe SMU, 4-3, on Tuesday afternoon.

The rescheduled match due to rains during spring break saw the Lady’Backs’ two-match win streak snapped and drop to 9-9 overall.

The Lady’Backs picked up the doubles point to open the contest, and got a straight set win from Rachel Wilhelm at No. 5 over Georgiana Marta, 6-3, 6-3.

The rest of singles belonged to the Mustangswin straight-set wins at two, three and six to set the table for the deciding matches.

Kaluder won her first set with Natalia Bubien in a shutout before giving up the second, 6-3. Kaluder closed out with another perfect set for the 6-0, 3-6, 6-0, victory.

All eyes turned to the fourth court where Audrey Bordeleau delivered for the Lady’Backs at Starkville last weekend, but was unable to pull out victory over Pavi Francis in a grueling 7-5, 6-4, loss.

The Lady’Backs resume their regular schedule this weekend with matches back in Southeastern Conference Western Division play at Auburn on Friday and Alabama on Sunday.
