#13Days13Razorbacks, Day 3: Sophie Bethke FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — During Arkansas’ two-week stay in Europe, one student-athlete will be featured each day in a feature titled #13Days13Razorbacks. Each daily feature will include a brief Q&A. The features will begin May 20 with the team’s day of travel from Fayetteville to Milan, Italy. Each entry will also be linked to the team’s #EuroHogs central page on ArkansasRazorbacks.com. Day 3 (Thursday, May 22): Freshman S Sophie Bethke This is the third feature in a series titled #13Days13Razorbacks in which one volleyball student-athlete per day will be highlighted during the team’s two-week European tour (May 20-June 1). Visit the #EuroHogs central page for continued coverage of Arkansas’ four-country stay which includes stops in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic. Today’s feature highlights freshman Sophie Bethke. Q: What’s been your favorite part of Italy so far? Sophie Bethke: Seeing the Cathedral which was gorgeous. I’m looking forward to the rest of the trip but I can’t wait to see Venice. Q: Have you traveled internationally before this trip? Bethke: Yes, a lot of times. I’ve been to Europe before but I was little so I don’t really remember it. Most recently, I went to Nicaragua for vacation. Q: In the span of roughly six months, you’ve gone from playing in high school to playing against international teams. What has that transition been like for you? Bethke: It’s been stressful at times but it’s been a good transition overall especially because of the other girls on the team. They’ve been my saving grace at times. Q: Was it helpful to have Shelby (Harper) going through it at the same time? Bethke: Definitely. We are both going through the same experience so we could look at each other to calm down because there was someone else to talk to about everything else. Q: What are the things you want to work on individually and as a team before the start of next season? Bethke: Personally, I definitely need to work on getting my feet to the ball and defense. As a team, we just need to keep working in unison and being together. I thought we played that way (Thursday) against Club Italia. Q: Tomorrow’s #13Days13Razorbacks feature will focus on Shelby Harper. For fans getting to know her for the first time, what is something they should know about her? Bethke: You could make it awkward and ask about her boyfriend. (Editor’s Note: We’ll see about that.) #13Days13Razorbacks Tuesday, May 20 — Breana Jones Wednesday, May 21 — Danielle Harbin Thursday, May 22 — Sophie Bethke Friday, May 23 — Shelby Harper Saturday, May 24 — Liz Fortado Sunday, May 25 — Monica Bollinger Monday, May 26 — Meredith Hays Tuesday, May 27 — Blakelee Dunagin Wednesday, May 28 — Adrien Wohlschlaeger Thursday, May 29 — Savannah Voelzke Friday, May 30 — Barbara Dapic Saturday, May 31 — Ana Sofia Jusino Sunday, June 1 — Summer Morgan For more information on Arkansas volleyball, follow @RazorbackVB on Twitter.
