FAYETTEVILLE — Three members of the University of Arkansas volleyball team were named to the 2012-13 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll when the list was released earlier this week. Based on their respective efforts in the classroom, the Razorbacks were represented by soon-to-be sophomores Monica Bollinger, Liz Fortado and Ana Sofia Jusino. In her first season in Cardinal and Whtie, Bollinger played in 28 matches and made 12 starts. She averaged 1.77 digs per set and totaled 16 service aces during the 2012 season. The St. Louis, Mo., native had 12 matches with at least seven digs and six double-digit dig performances. Bollinger established a career high with 13 digs in wins against Kentucky and at LSU. Fortado was named to the 2012 SEC All-Freshman Team after averaging 1.85 kills per set on the right side. She finished the year with 11 matches in which she posted a .300 or higher hitting percentage with at least six kills. The Flower Mound, Texas, native had seven double-digit kill efforts including a career-best 13 kills at South Carolina, and had seven matches with at least four total blocks. Fortado is currently in Pula, Croatia, playing with the USA Junior A1 Team at the European Global Challenge. Jusino was a redshirt during the 2012 season but spent time during the spring semester with the Puerto Rico Junior National Team at the U-20 Pan American Cup and FIVB U-20 World Championships in Brno, Czech Republic. At the world competition, Jusino finished tied for 75th in overall scoring and 33rd in blocks per set. Overall, the University of Arkansas had 49 student-athletes named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll. To qualify, each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or above; 2) be on scholarship or a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment. The Razorbacks’ season begins Aug. 30-31 with the Arkansas Invitational at Barnhill Arena. Season tickets for the 2013 Arkansas volleyball season are now on sale through the Razorback Ticket Center, both online and at the office near Baum Stadium.
