Three Razorbacks Earn Individual SEC Awards
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Southeastern Conference has awarded three Razorbacks with individual honors based on their performances during the 2007 season.
Darren McFadden was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year, Felix Jones took SEC Special Teams Player of the Year honors while Jonathan Luigs was awarded the Jacobs Blocking Trophy.
McFadden, a Doak Walker and Walter Camp Award finalist and a first-team All-American, is averaging 143.8 yards per game on the ground and 181 all-purpose yards this season. During the season, McFadden set single-season records for Arkansas with 1,725 rushing yards and 2,172 all-purpose yards gained. Both marks eclipse records he set last season.
During his junior campaign, McFadden became the Razorbacks’ all-time leading rusher and all-purpose leader. He passed Ben Cowins on the UA rushing list and now has 4,485 yards during his Razorback career. Through his 37-game career, McFadden has gained 5,743 all-purpose yards which moves him ahead of Gary Anderson for the top spot on the school list.
Jones, a Doak Walker Award semifinalist and a first-team All-American, returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, including a 90-yard score against Troy in the Hogs’ opener. The Tulsa, Okla., native had at least one kickoff return for a touchdown in each of his first three seasons at Arkansas. The Tulsa, Okla., native led the SEC and ranked third in the nation in kickoff returns with a 31.3 yards-per-attempt average.
Luigs, a Rimington Trophy finalist and a first-team All-American, has been at the forefront of an offensive line that has cleared the way for the nation’s No. 4 rushing offense averaging 296.8 yards per game. He cleared the way for two 1,000-yard rushers in Darren McFadden (1,725) and Felix Jones (1,117). Luigs leads the Razorbacks with a 90.4 percent grade average this season, including team-best averages on running plays (86.1 percent) and passing plays (96.9 percent). He has paved the way for 36 100-yard rushing games in 35 career games, including a school-record 16 100-yard performances in 12 games this season.
