Through the first nine

PALO ALTO, Calif. — The University of Arkansas women’s golf team stepped it up a notch through the first nine holes of the second round of the 2010 NCAA West Regional Championship in Palo Alto, Calif., Friday.

Arkansas struggled in the first round playing the first nine holes (which were the back nine after they started on the 10th hole), plus 13.

The Razorbacks rallied Friday playing the front nine at plus three as they made the turn.

Arkansas made the turn tied for 12th overall with nine holes remaining.

Senior Tiffany Phelps was leading the charge playing the first half of the course at one under. Seniors Kristin Ingram and Alex Schulte were one over and freshman Victoria Vela was plus two. Junior Kelli Shean, a bit under the weather Friday, was plus four.

Check back soon to see how Arkansas finishes the round. Today’s goal was to move up the leaderboard as far as possible but specifically into the top 12 as a team. The top 12 teams go off in the morning of the final round enjoying more favorable conditions on the course.
