Ticket Increase Needed to Defray Escalating Expenses and Increase Funding for Razorback Student-Athletes

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas will raise the price of its general admission football ticket to $45 next season in an effort to keep pace with the escalating costs associated with the operation of its 19 sports benefitting more than 450 student-athletes, Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long announced on Monday. General admission ticket prices for conference games have not increased since 2004.

“As we address the future funding needs of our combined programs it is imperative that we maximize ticket revenue and explore new revenue streams to support all of our athletic programs,” Long said. “In the past five years alone, expenses in travel, game guarantees, utilities and maintenance of our facilities have grown exponentially. Our fans and supporters have made it clear that they want our student-athletes to have the resources to compete and succeed in the Southeastern Conference and nationally. We will also work to increase revenue in areas other than tickets while focusing on operating in a fiscally responsible way.”

Bench seats in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium and War Memorial Stadium will increase from $35 to $45 for the 2008 season. In addition, skybox seating will increase by $50 with tickets in the red zone and south outside club increasing by $15 and $25, respectively. Ticket prices for the east indoor club, east outdoor club and south indoor club will remain the same for 2008. UA students will continue to be offered a ticket for $1 per game, the lowest-priced student football ticket in the country.

Arkansas maintains one of the lowest general admission ticket prices in the Southeastern Conference and will rank seventh in 2008. With the increase, Arkansas will remain below the average cost of a general admission ticket of $47.20 in the SEC. Arkansas’ ticket price will also remain well below the average of several Big 12 neighboring institutions, which charge between $65 and $95 for conference games.

The University Of Arkansas Department Of Intercollegiate Athletics is self-supporting and does not receive a student fee.
