ANN ARBOR, Mich. – It was a rough day for the Arkansas Razorbacks at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Thursday with all three UA participants losing tough first-round matches. Junior Rohan Gajjar faced the No. 1-ranked player in the country, Catalin Gard of Ole Miss, and took him to the wire before losing two sets in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3). Junior Adrians Zguns, ranked No. 10 in the country, fell to No. 27 Nathan Thompson of Clemson, also losing a set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. The doubles team of Matt Roberts and Imraan Ismail, which won the Wilson/ITA Central Region V championship to earn a spot in the 16-team field, lost to Harvard’s Jason Beren and Martin Wetzel in another close match, 8-6. Gajjar and Zguns, and Roberts and Ismail will compete in the consolation bracket on Friday. Gajjar is now 10-5 this year while Zguns is 5-5. Roberts and Ismail are 9-3.
