AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn scored seven runs in the first two innings – six unearned – en route to a 10-1 win over Arkansas in the first game of a three-game Southeastern Conference series at Plainsman Park.
The Tigers (24-11, 6-10 SEC) out-hit the Razorbacks (19-20, 5-11 SEC) 13-7 and exploited three Hog errors for their eighth victory in their last nine games and their fourth-consecutive win in the series. Arkansas fell to 0-7 in SEC road games.
Auburn starter Levale Speigner (7-1) scattered seven hits in seven innings to earn the win. He struck out five, walked two and allowed the only Arkansas run – an RBI double by Brett Hagedorn in the third inning. Brent Spigner and Marshall Watts each pitched one inning of scoreless relief to preserve the win.
Arkansas starter Gary Hogan Jr. (1-3) was chased after just 1 1/3 innings after allowing seven runs (one eanred) on five hits and was charged with the loss.
Justin Christian and Todd Faulkner had three hits each to lead the Tigers. Faulkner drove in three runs and became Auburn’s career leader in total bases with a first-inning RBI single. Jeff Hoefler and Tigger Lyles had two hits each to lead the Razorbacks.
The series continues Saturday at 3 p.m. CT and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
