Tigu honored by SEC Lady'Back tennis moves up one spot

FAYETTEVILLE – For the second time in three weeks University of Arkansas Lady Razorback Anouk Tigu has been named tennis’ Freshman of the Week by the Southeastern Conference.

“I feel honored to be named Freshman of the Week again this early in the season,” said Tigu. “My coaches and teammates have helped me adjust to this level of tennis and hopefully I can continue to improve my game.”

Tigu has begun her career as a Lady’Back in fine fashion by rolling to a 7-0 combined record in singles and doubles.

“It’s great to see such quick results from a freshman, and we have a lot to look forward to out of Anouk as she is only tipping the edge of her potential,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty.

After dropping her first ever collegiate set, Tigu claimed six straight sets to put together her current three match win streak in singles.

Also on Tuesday, the Lady’Back tennis team skipped up one spot to No. 39 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.

Arkansas is gearing up for one of the most prestigious events in the spring outside of the NCAA Tournament, the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. They are set to play 8th-ranked Southern California at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

The Lady’Backs moved up after downing Kansas 5-2 on Saturday, their only match in the past week.
