Tigu, Lunkenheimer earn academic honors

FAYETTEVILLE – Senior Razorback tennis player Anouk Tigu and junior swimmer Lisa Lunkenheimer were honored as Capital One Academic All-District at-large second team selection, announced Thursday.

Lunkenheimer earned six top-three finishes this season and had two top-five performances on the team this season. Her best performance of the season came at the 2010 Southeastern Conference Championships when she finished with a time of 2:04:55 in the 200 IM. Lunkenheimer finished with the third best time on the team in the 50 free when she clocked 24.27 at the Drury dual in January. She holds a spot on two Arkansas all-time records lists as part of a relay team in the 200 and 400-medley. She has been a member of the winter SEC Academic Honor Roll for two years and a University of Arkansas Academic Champion as a sophomore and junior for holding a 4.0 each semester.

Tigu, graduated last Saturday with a 3.96 GPA and participated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament the same day, helping the Razorbacks to a 4-1 win over Sacramento State. On the court, Tigu has had a stellar senior season and racked up a 24-9 record in singles and a 26-9 record in doubles with teammate Claudine Paulson. In singles, she is ranked No. 33 in the nation and has never dropped below the top-35 all season long. She is participating in next week’s NCAA individual singles and doubles championships in Palo Alto, Calif., at Stanford.

They represent two of the 12 student-athletes chosen from District 6 for their achievements in the classroom. To be available for selection, nominees must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
