Tigu named SEC Freshman of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE – A mere nine days after joining the Lady Razorback tennis team, the University of Arkansas’Anouk Tigu was honored as women’s tennis Freshman of the Week by the Southeastern Conference on Wednesday.

“I was really impressed with the first weekend of her career,” said head coach Michael Hegarty. “We are tremendously excited for her future as a Lady’Back.”

Tigu, a native of Holland, earned her first ever NCAA win Saturday with a comeback over BYU’s Chie Hayasaka, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. She also won doubles matches against BYU and Utah to finish 3-0 for the weekend.

Tigu is glad she got the honor in only her first week, while also enjoying being with her teammates over the weekend in Utah.

“It was a great competitive weekend and I really liked the team chemistry we had,” said Tigu. “We have all been working hard and it’s good seeing it pay off.”

Arkansas will be back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Missouri at the Wal-Mart Courts in Bentonville, Ark.
