FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas track and field teams have reached season-high rankings in the release of the Feb. 15 national poll by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association (USTFCCCA). The Razorback men jump seven spots to No. 5 in the nation.
The current position for men’s head coach Chris Bucknam and the Razorbacks is the team’s first top-10 appearance of the 2011 indoor season. Prior to its No. 5 position, Arkansas was the 12th-ranked team in last week’s poll. The team opened the season at No. 13. The Razorbacks are the third-highest Southeastern Conference team and one of six men’s team from the SEC ranked inside the nation’s top 25.
The SEC, Big 12 and Big Ten each have six teams in the national men’s top 25. For a second consecutive week, Arkansas holds the top spot in the South Central regional rankings ahead of LSU, Texas, Texas A&M and Houston, respectively.
As is the pattern, the week-four rankings from the USTFCCCA are the first of the year to reflect scores based solely on performances from the 2011 season (with the exception of combined events). The Razorbacks concluded the regular-season portion of their schedule last weekend with the Tyson Invitational and return to action Feb. 25-27 with the SEC Championships at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville.
