Totten sets Philippine record

FAYETTEVILLE- While competing in the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, senior swimmer Erica Totten swam her way to a new Philippine record in the 800-meter freestyle on Nov. 17.

Totten broke her own national record during the preliminary race with a time of 8:54.11. Totten was third in her heat after becoming the only swimmer from her Filipino team to improve her time at this year’s Asian Games.

Her new record time also erases her previous record of 8:54.96 which she set at the 25th South East Asian Games in 2009.

She has also competed in the 200m free where she placed seventh in her heat, the 400m IM with a time of 5:01.59 and 200m butterfly where she clocked a time of 2:16.58. Totten also represents the Philippines in the 200m IM on Nov. 18.

The rest of the Razorbacks head to the Purdue Invitational Nov. 19-21 in West Lafayette, Ind.
