Track Capital #NewHogs Summer Series: Lexi Weeks

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s track and field team didn’t have to go far to add to their talented roster of student-athletes. Pole vault high school outdoor national record-holder Lexi Weeks will be making her way to Fayetteville this fall and joining a group of talented vaulters that feature two returning NCAA medalists.

Following her record-breaking performance at the Freedom Vault on July 4, the Cabot high school standout has been named the 2015 MileSplit Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, announced on Tuesday.

“It was awesome to finish my high school career with a high PR and a national record,” Weeks said. “Ever since I knew [competing in] college sports was a possibility, I knew Arkansas was where I wanted to go.”

While Weeks attracts attention for her skills on the runway, the future Razorback has proved successful in multiple disciplines. At the Arkansas Meet of Champions Weeks displayed her wide skill set collecting first and second place finishes on the track in the 400-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles. She also is gifted at horizontal jumps consistently marking 18 feet distances in the long jump since the 2014 season.

The MileSplit All-American picked up another major postseason award earlier this summer in June when she was named the 2015 Arkansas Gatorade Athlete of Year.

“I have always been a Razorback fan,” Weeks said. “Arkansas is my home and being able to be a part of an outstanding track and field program and pole vault legacy is amazing.”
