FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The defending national champion Arkansas men’s track team will travel to Joplin, Mo. for the Missouri Southern Invitational this Saturday.
“It is a brand new facility,” head coach John McDonnell said. “The radius according to their track coach is wider, so in that case it should be a fast track. The nice thing is that it is close an our guys won’t have to travel very far.”
Already qualifying seven Razorbacks in 10 events for nationals, Arkansas will look to continue improving for the national championships held in Fayetteville.
The Hogs will be lead by James Karanu, Ryan Stanley and Melvin Lister. Each All-American has qualified in two events.
Karanu has qualified in the 800m dash and the mile. At the Arkansas Invitational last Saturday, Karanu ran a sub-four minute mile (3:59.35).
Stanley continues to improve in the middle distance races. He has qualified in the 3,000m and the 800m.
Defending national champion Melvin Lister will look to automatically qualify in the triple jump. He has already provisionally qualified in the triple, but will look to improve this weekend. Lister has automatically qualified in the long jump with a leap of 25-10.
The Missouri Invitational will begin with the throwing events at 10 a.m. with the sprints and running events beginning at 4:30 p.m.
