FAYETTEVILLE – Withone current andtwo soon-to-be Razorbacks competing, the 13th IAAF World Junior Championships will be held Tues.-Sun., July 19-25 at the newly built Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium, in Moncton, Canada.
More than 2,000 athletes from more than 170 nations will compete over the next seven days at the brand-new stadium in the Canadian maritime province of New Brunswick. The World Junior meet, last held in Canada in 1988 at Sudbury, Ontario, is a stepping-stone for future Olympians.
Soon-to-be sophomore Caleb Cross will compete for Team USA in the 110-meter hurdles. He holds a season-best of 13.90 at senior hurdle height and a best of 13.64 at junior hurdle height. He will run in the heats on Friday, the semifinals on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.
Soon-to-be freshman Kevin Lazas will compete for Team USA in the decathlon on Tuesday and Wednesday. He holds a season best of 7,291 points and was the runner-up at the USA Junior Championships.
Soon-to-be freshman Raymond Higgs will represent his native Bahamas in the high jump and long jump. He holds bests of 7-3 and 25-1.75, respectively. The high jump competition will begin Wednesday with qualifying and conclude Friday with finals. The long jump competition will begin Tuesday with qualifying and conclude Wednesday with finals.
