Track Hogs Hunt for Conference Title No. 82

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. Arkansas will be seeking conference title No. 82 when it takes to the track at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., at Sam H. Bailey Track. The event will begin Thurs., May 10, with the decathlon, and will wrap up Sun., May 13.

Since Arkansas joined the SEC in time for the 1991-92 season, the Hogs have won 43 of the 47 league championships in the three sports. The Razorbacks have captured all 15 cross country titles, 14 of 16 indoor crowns and 13 of 15 outdoor championships in that time span. Arkansas won 38 Southwest Conference titles prior to 1991.

UA is the defending SEC cross country, indoor and outdoor champion. The Razorbacks have won the last four outdoor league crowns including last season in Fayetteville.

J-Mee Samuels, Adam Perkins, Alain Bailey and Nkosinza Balumbu are currently leading the SEC in the 100 meters, 1,500 meters, long jump and triple jump, respectively. These conference leading marks were all set at the John McDonnell Invitational.

Arkansas track and field is ranked No. 9 by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and No. 25 by Trackwire 25, it was announced on Tuesday. Four Razorbacks were also tabbed in the Trackwire Dandy Dozen.

Defending NCAA Outdoor Champion Florida State is seated at the top of the Trackwire 25 and the USTFCCCA poll while Auburn and USC sit at No. 2 in the USTFCCCA and Trackwire 25, respectively. Oregon sits at No. 3 in the Trackwire 25 while Auburn holds the third spot in the USTFCCCA.

In the Dandy Dozen, 10-time All-American Peter Kosgei dropped to No. 6 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. J-Mee Samuels remains at No. 10 in the 100-meter rankings.

In the field events, Alain Bailey moved to No. 6 in the long jump. In the triple jump, All-American and two-time SEC Champion Nkosinza Balumbu sits at fifth.
