Track wraps up regular season

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Select members of the Arkansas men’s track and field team competed at the Iowa State Last Chance meet Sat., March 7. Additionally, freshman Eric Fernandez picked up a top-five finish at the NACAC Cross Country Championships.

In Ames, Iowa, senior J-Mee Samuels finished sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.20. The 4×400-meter quartet of Marek Niit (47.65), Ben Skidmore (47.16), Travis Nollsch (47.43) and Chris Bilbrew (46.41) clocked a time of 3:09.02. The relay time is a season best and ranks No. 22 on the NCAA list.

Spencer McCorkel had another valiant effort in the pole vault at Iowa State. He made three good attempts on a bigger pole but was unable to clear a bar.

At the 2009 North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Cross Country Championships, in the junior men’s 6K, Team USA scored 12 points over Canada’s 24 points. Jamaica finished third with 54 points.

Freshman Eric Fernandez was the fourth member of Team USA to cross the finish line and the fifth runner overall to finish. He clocked a time of 18:08.
