GLENCOE, Ill. – Junior Ethan Tracy was one of 16 players to advance to match play at the Western Amateur at the Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Ill., but despite a round where he shot one-under par, Tracy would be eliminated from competition, 1 down, in match play by Cam Burke of New Hamburg, Ontario.
In the closest of the eight matches on the day, Tracy and Burke each bogeyed the first hole before matching each other with three holes of par and a birdie. All square through six, Tracy posted a par on the par five seventh, but a birdie by Burke put him one up. Tracy quickly evened the match on the eighth with a birdie, three, while Burke hit par. Tracy would win the ninth hole as well to go one up with a par, three and held the lead for one more hole before a bogey on 11 placed the match all square one more.
The two golfers would match each other’s shots through the 13th hole but a bogey by Tracy on 14 and par by Burke put the Razorback down by one hole with four to play. The even match would continue and despite Tracy’s three birdies over the final four holes, he could not push the match square and fell on 18.
Tracy and Burke’s round was all square on 10 of the 18 holes and the duo combined to hit 10 birdies and 20 pars over their 36 holes.
