Transitioning Into a Hog

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Making the next step as a Division I student-athlete, whether as an incoming freshman or a transfer student-athlete, can be a daunting prospect for some.

Through the Hogs In Transition program, also known as H.I.T., the Office of Student-Athlete Success staff has been able to assist incoming student-athletes with their transition to college and the University of Arkansas.

In its sixth consecutive year, H.I.T. programming sessions focuses on a variety of topics with the goal of better equipping incoming student-athletes in their immediate transition, as well as their post-collegiate careers.

“H.I.T. is a great program for freshman student-athletes,” women’s basketball freshman Kiara Williams said. “It helps explain to student-athletes what they need to do to get and stay on track.”

The OSAS staff collaborated with numerous departments on campus to facilitate these sessions. These topics included:

This year’s H.I.T. committee included Associate Director of Student-Athlete Development Tamesha Muse, Administrative Assistant Lexy Diaz, Assistant Director of Athletics Savannah Hall and Assistant Director of Academics Liz Reyes.

“H.I.T. is a great program put into our hands that is developing some of the attributes I need to succeed,” football student-athlete Micahh Smith said. “The tools and people that have been provided to us has really enhanced my skills from the start of my time at Arkansas to the present.”
