Trio of Hogs to play for regional titles
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas sophomore Kate Lukomskaya and the Razorback doubles team of Anouk Tigu and Claudine Paulson each advanced Saturday to play for the singles and doubles titles at the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championships at Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.
Lukomskaya earned her spot in the final with a 7-6, 6-3 defeat of Oklahoma’s Marie-Pier Huet in the semifinals after beating teammate Anouk Tigu 7-5, 6-2 in the quarterfinal round. Lukomskaya faces Ana-Maria Constantinescu from Oklahoma at 10 a.m. Central time Sunday.
The No. 1 seeded doubles team, Tigu and Paulson advanced to Sunday’s final with an 8-2 win over teammates Lukomskaya and Kelsey Sundaram. Tigu and Paulson will meet the Oklahoma duo of Constantinescu and Teona Tsertsvadze at the conclusion of the singles final.
“I am really proud of our whole team here at this championship,” Arkansas coach Michael Hegarty said. “Everyone has been battling very hard and both singles and doubles finalists have great opportunities tomorrow.”
The winner of both finals will automatically advance to the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 5-8, hosted by the Yale University in New Haven, CT.
