Trio of Lady'Backs honored by SEC

FAYETTEVILLE – On the eve of the 2006 Southeastern Conference Soccer Championship Tournament, the league office announced the winners of its annual awards and a trio of Lady Razorbacks was among the honorees.

Senior forward Christina Burger was named second-team all-conference, Kim Schleif earned a spot on the all-freshman team and senior Carrie Dillsaver was given Good Works Team honors.

“These are well deserved honors for each of these young ladies,” Arkansas head coach Gordon Henderson said. “The awards this year were as balanced as I have ever seen them, so to get two players on the teams is a great honor. Tina was a threat in every game this fall and I think that the coaches saw that and rewarded her for it. I believe that having a player on the freshman team is a great compliment. This fall there were many teams with talented freshmen classes and was probably one of the hardest years to get someone onto that team.”

For Burger, her appointment to the SEC’s second team is the second of her career and makes her the first Lady Razorback since Erin Sampson in 1999 and 2002 to be placed on an all-conference squad multiple times in her career. She is just the fifth Lady Razorback ever to accomplish the task. The Lady Razorbacks’ primary offensive threat for three seasons, Burger ended her soccer career last weekend with 29 career goals and 69 points to place herself fourth on Arkansas’ all-time scoring charts. Her seven game-winning goals rank third on Arkansas’ all-time list.

Schleif becomes the first Lady Razorback to ever earn all-freshman team honors since the league began distributing the awards in the fall of 2003. In her first year of collegiate soccer, Schleif scored three goals and assisted on one in 19 games played. The San Antonio, Texas, native started 12 matches including nine SEC contests at outside midfield. She netted one game-winning goal in Arkansas’ victory over the University of Memphis in late September.

Dillsaver’s Good Works Team honor caps an already full career. In four years, Dillsaver eclipsed 27 career, season and class records while also maintaining a 3.74 grade point average in nursing. In her spare time, she made two trips to Honduras with Arkansas Athletes Outreach and was one of AAO’s Champions of Character this fall. While on her trips, Dillsaver worked in hospitals, day cares and medical clinics while also building homes. With the Lady Razorback soccer team she has been a part of several Easter Egg Hunts in West Fork and participated in the Dr. Seuss Read Across America at several northwest Arkansas schools.
